  • (un)Cautioned. Curated chaos in performance. Manipulate worlds. Spatial design patterns through avant-garde aesthetics. Multifaceted components of conceptualised and perceptual muchness do the bidding. Blur lines between performance art and dance. Manifest a(the) surreal avenue to be taken. Make room. Render nothing as obsolete. Take voyeuristic prisoners. Create as the informant. Ingest onlookers. Reap what you sweat. Challenge form. Blurt uncontrollably. Be wicked. Do the other thing.

This work is an exploration of darkness, beauty, pain, and physicality, which strives to blur the lines between reality and the surreal. Compiled over the course of 2 months out on a farm in Virginia, the work is a choreographic outlet used to expand upon inner turmoil and strife.

FLYTARP, 2019.

An erotic amalgamation of experimental choreography, heels, glamor, and sensuality. www.hankbamberger.com
Bamberger Dance Projects: manipuLATEd.memBRAIN - was created by Hank Bamberger for Bamberger Dance Projects and commissioned by the Jamaica Center of Arts and Learning (JCAL) for their 10th annual Making Moves Dance Festival, as part of their Emerging Choreographers production. This work curates an interplay amongst camp, queer aesthetics, absurdity, situational irony, modern and deconstructed jazz dance phraseologies.

  • As the interim ballet specialist and composition teacher at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School (a magnet performing arts high school in Petersburg, VA) for 2020/2021, bamberger ran the Dance Department’s Company. this group was rebranded as SAILDANCE, a young group of aspiring artists and incredible pre-professional dancers. These performers were all in grade 9.

  • Due to the pandemic, the group rehearsed via Zoom and created an hour-long immersive installation dance series that fluctuated in its iterative practice over three months. What culminated was nothing short of miraculous.

  • The dancers were asked to perform at the Firehouse Theatre, a downtown experimental performance space in Richmond, VA. It was pure magic. Please enjoy this hopeful sequence of performances based on resilience and the powerful human condition.

KVEEN.Wind.bender is a two month long work in progress utilizing a 20x30ft tarp. I wanted to play with the texture of the material and manipulate the object itself, as well as, the time structure of the tarp's movement with technology. The outcome is surreal, beautiful, and haunting - three of my favorite elements in dance...and in life.
Ideas surrounding erotica, claustrophobia, and intimacy are explored in this darkly personal concept video. Music: Lana Del Rey - "Freak"
A concept video by Hank Bamberger - FLYTARP is the newest choreographic work that investigates the body and its relationship to fluidity, external motion, and involvement of choreographic objects. Plastics interplay with flesh as sustainable vs. unsustainable and landscapes walk a fine line of industrial vs. ecological.

UNDERSTANDING ABSTRACT PROCESS(ES) •

UNDERSTANDING ABSTRACT PROCESS(ES) •

  • The authentically rich, choreographic process is always in motion. I have made it my goal and responsibility to be consistently immersed and enthralled in physical creativity.

  • When ideas and physicality synergize, I strike the choreographic iron while it’s hot. I come from an American modern dance background, preluded by years of ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary dance. I seek honesty in visceral performance art practices that uphold identity… in all its confluence and integrity.

  • Through Bamberger Dance Projects, I am fulfilling my dream as an artist and choreographer—constantly in a state of movement exploration and conceptual excavation.

The excesses of lived experience are reevaluated along non-normative foundations. Going crazy can be wondrous in the complexities of hilarity and desperation.
